AYLL 2012 9U, 10U, and 12U All-Star Baseball Team Tryouts!!!
by AYLL posted 01/23/2012

Hello Baseball Parents and Players,

As a reminder, AYLL – Antioch Baseball and Softball is preparing to select players for their 2012 All-Star Baseball Teams*. We will have a 9U, 10U, and 12U team. The level of play is very high and our teams work very hard to maximize their talents.

Thanks to our great Sponsors, the 2012 All-Star Baseball Teams will participate in 2 tournaments each, and the North 60 League in which these teams will play against other In-House All-Star Teams in the area.

Tryouts will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Antioch Community High School as follows:

 9U       9:00am – 11:00am
 10U     12:30pm – 2:30pm
 12U     3:00pm – 5:00pm

Please arrive ½ hour prior to the appropriate tryout time to warm-up.

Players will need their Gloves/Mitts, Bats and Helmets. Catchers are encouraged to bring their own Catcher’s Gear (Bats, Helmets, and Catcher’s Gear will be provided for those players that do not have their own).

Players must wear a protective cup and gym shoes (baseball cleats are not allowed in the school).

Please note this will be the only open tryout for the 2012 All-Star Baseball Teams, and players are required to be registered for the 2012 AYLL In-House Spring Baseball Season by Saturday, January 28, 2012 in order to participate in the tryout.

Players will be selected based upon their playing ability and eligibility.

Players will be evaluated on fielding, throwing, catching, hitting, and running. Players interested in being a pitcher and/or a catcher will have these skills evaluated as well. Player attitude, focus, and hustle will be considered in the selection process. Input from a prior year manager/coach may be considered in the selection process.

Player’s age as of April 30, 2012 will determine eligibility. Players may be eligible to tryout for more than one team. However, players must identify the team(s) for which they want to be considered prior to the tryout. Players are only eligible to be selected for one All-Star Baseball Team.

Playing time is not equal and your child may not play the same position(s) he played or will play during the In-House Spring Baseball Season. Please discuss these possibilities with your child before tryouts to ensure that you and your child do not experience disappointment over playing time and/or position.

Players selected for the 9U, 10U, and 12U All-Star Baseball Teams will be posted on the league website, http://www.ayll.com, on Sunday, February 5, 2012. Practices for these teams will begin in February 2012. Please see the Events Calendar folder of the league website for details.

For those players selected, there is an $85.00 All-Star Baseball Team Fee. This fee will need to be made in Cash or in the form of a Check made payable to AYLL by Wednesday, February 29, 2012. The All-Star Baseball Team Managers will collect this fee from each player for their team.

AYLL - Antioch Baseball and Softball: 2012 Baseball Bat Rules!!!
by AYLL posted 01/15/2012

Hello Baseball Parents and Players,

For safety reasons, we have implemented new Baseball Bat Rules for the 2012 Spring Season. Please read below for details and the reasoning behind the changes of the Baseball Bat Rules:

What is BPF & BBCOR?

BPF stands for Bat Performance Factor. It is a measurement of how a ball “rebounds” off the bat, compared to a ball thrown at a stone wall. We are using a BPF of 1.15 in ages 14 & younger. All baseball bats for this age group must have the 1.15 BPF stamp (see image below). This means the bat has a “rebound” of 15% faster than a ball thrown at a stone wall.

BBCOR stands for Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution. Basically BBCOR measures how much energy the ball loses at contact with the bat. The NCAA & NFHS want metal & composite bats to perform more like wood bats, so they have adopted this standard.

BPF is associated with YOUTH BATS ONLY.  The BBCOR standard is for Adult (drop -3) bats ONLY.  The drop in the bat is the difference between the length and weight.  For example, when someone says they are looking for a drop -3, 32” length bat, you know the weight is 29 oz.  Over the past years bat manufacturers have developed bats that increased the risk for injury by making bats that increased their trampoline effect the more a player used the bat.  Batted baseballs would come off the bats at unsafe speeds.

Now for 2012, the bat rule changes aim at reducing the hit speed off a bat to a level that cannot be exceeded during the life of the bat.  Games in 2012 will have lower scores and batted ball injuries will be reduced.

Please note, if your child is playing In-House baseball, each In-House team within our league will have 1.15 BPF baseball bats available for your child to use.  Therefore, parents are not required to purchase a 1.15 BPF baseball bat for their child.  However, please follow the guidelines above and below if you choose to purchase a baseball bat for your child:

‘A’ Ball, AA Baseball, and AAA Baseball

The baseball bat shall not be more than thirty-three (33) inches in length nor more than two and one-quarter (2 1/4) inches in diameter. No drop restrictions.

Major Baseball

The baseball bat shall not be more than thirty-three (33) inches in length nor more than two and five-eights (2 5/8) inches in diameter. No drop restrictions.
